The construction of a large-scale spiritual center in Derbent is currently underway. The building, which will become the tallest in Dagestan at 88 meters tall, is being designed by local experts as a tribute to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
It incorporates unique architectural elements and motifs from the Derbent fortress, creating a 35-hectare complex that will include a mosque with 88 domes, museums, a library, conference rooms, parking for 2,000 cars, a bus terminal and recreation areas. The exterior will feature marble and precious metals, with natural stone mosaics reflecting the diverse ornamental traditions of Dagestani people.
The time capsule deposition ceremony will see regional governor Sergei Melikov, federal top officials and other dignitaries.
