MAKHACHKALA, July 16 – RIA "Dagestan". According to Dagestan branch of the Russian Agricultural Center, aerial locust control measures have reached 4,000 hectares, resulting in a combined treated area of 44,197 hectares—split between 34,646 hectares for larvae and 9,551 hectares for adults.
Ground applications span 40,147 hectares, supplemented by 4,050 hectares of aerial intervention. Monitoring efforts encompass 251,400 hectares, with larval surveys on 127,400 hectares detecting severe infestations on 65,800 hectares (average density 12/m², reaching 150/m² in Kizlyarsky’s Tushilovka) and adult surveys on 45,800 hectares finding infestations on 12,700 hectares (average 8.4/m², peaking at 50/m² in Tarumovsky’s Tushilovka).
Biologically, Moroccan locusts continue oviposition amid declining adult numbers, while Asian locusts sustain flight activity in natural outbreak zones.
Significantly, zero crop damage has been recorded. Cooperative border checks with Stavropol and Kalmykia counterparts verified initial Moroccan larval emergence in shared territories, notably Tarumovsky District. Anticipated developments include continued dispersal of Asian locust adults within established foci during the coming week.
