MAKHACHKALA, March 30 – RIA Dagestan. As of March 30, 2026, spring surveys have been carried out over 31,000 hectares in the Republic of Dagestan to identify locust egg pods. Infestation was detected on only 2,740 hectares. Agronomists from the Russian Agricultural Center continue to closely monitor the situation.

Specialists conduct targeted spring inspections in areas prone to locust pest spread. The aims of these surveys are to determine the affected area size, establish the best timing and methods for treatment, and assess the pest’s overwintering status.

A working group, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, has been formed. The Government of the Republic pays special attention to this issue to prevent the spread of this particularly harmful pest and to reduce potential damage to crops. Due to the pest control measures in place and effective coordination under the Ministry’s guidance, no locust infestation threat has been reported in the republic over the last six years.
