Dagestan emerges as a leading lamb producer in the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), contributing approximately one-third to the district's total lamb output.
Data from Rosselkhozbank reveals that the NCFD produced 22.1 thousand tons of lamb in the first quarter of 2025, representing an 11.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Dagestan spearheaded this production with 6.3 thousand tons, constituting 28.6% of the district's total output. Notably, Dagestan solidified its position as Russia's primary lamb producer in 2024, generating 75.1 thousand tons of live weight meat.
Karachay-Cherkessia followed with a 23.4% share (5.2 thousand tons) of the first quarter 2025 production, while Stavropol Krai accounted for 21.1% (4.7 thousand tons). Analysis indicates that farmers were responsible for the largest portion of production at 9 thousand tons, followed by private farms with 8.4 thousand tons and large agricultural enterprises contributing 4.7 thousand tons.
