MAKHACHKALA, February 24 – RIA "Dagestan". In 2025, the Terek-Caspian branch of Glavrybvod (Federal State Budgetary Institution “The Main Basin Department for Fisheries and Conservation of Aquatic Biological Resources”) released more than 15 million juvenile fish into the Caspian Sea and inland water bodies to support stock replenishment.
The effort involved five hatcheries—Terek, Dagestan, Biryuzyak, Mekhteb and Primorsky Experimental—which, under the state assignment, raised and released 10.3 million kutum fry, over 4.4 million carp, 101,300 Russian sturgeon and 30,000 Caspian salmon. An additional 420,000 juveniles, primarily carp and Russian sturgeon, were released as part of compensatory measures.
To secure future reproduction cycles, specialists placed approximately 41 million eggs into incubation, including 19.5 million kutum and 20.5 million carp eggs. Concurrently, infrastructure improvements were carried out at the hatcheries: 615 hectares at the Mekhteb facility were cleared of dense aquatic vegetation, the Gudiya channel of the Terek River was cleaned and canals at two hatcheries were deepened through the removal of hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of silt and soil.
