MAKHACHKALA, May 28 – RIA Dagestan. Work continues in Dagestan under the regional "Forest Conservation" project, which is part of the relevant national project. The republican Forestry Committee has been tasked with collecting 5,515 tons of seeds from forest-forming tree species.
According to the agency's press service, specialists have already fully secured stocks of elm, gleditsia, pine and acacia seeds. The collection of other species depends on their ripening periods: djuzgun (Elaeagnus) seeds are scheduled to be gathered in summer, while oak and ash seeds will be harvested in autumn. The entire seed collection operation is planned for completion by mid-November.
In parallel, a sowing campaign has been launched in the region, during which more than 3 tons of seeds will be planted. All seed material undergoes obligatory quality inspection. Dagestan Forest Seed Station—a branch of the federal budgetary institution "Roslesozashchita" the Forest Protection Center of the Republic of Dagestan—provides experts’ assessments regarding seed quality and fitness for planting.
