Dagestan Ranks Second in Russia for Average POS Loan Size

MAKHACHKALA, March 10 – RIA "Dagestan". Dagestan recorded one of the highest average point-of-sale (POS) loan amounts in Russia at the end of January 2026, with residents borrowing an average of RUB 85,000 from banks.

The republic ranked second nationally, trailing only the Chechen Republic, where the average POS loan reached RUB 95,000. Tuva and Moscow tied for third place with averages of RUB 82,000. The national average for POS loans in January stood at RUB 70,000.

Nationwide, the number of POS loans issued in January declined by 15 percent compared to December, totaling 197,920. The overall volume of issuances fell by 14 percent to RUB 13.78 billion. On an annual basis, however, lending volume grew by 9 percent, a trend experts attribute to inflation.

Mikhail Aleksin, Director General of the United Credit Bureau, attributed the January decline to a traditional seasonal slowdown. The top manager noted that high interest rates and Central Bank restrictions persist, adding that POS lending dynamics in 2026 are likely to mirror last year's figures.
