Novolakskaya Wind Power Plant to Cover Approximately 20% of Dagestan's Electricity Deficit

MAKHACHKALA, March 16 – RIA Dagestan. Grigory Nazarov, Director General of "VetroOGK-3" JSC, presented information on the implementation of Novolakskaya Wind Power Plant (WPP) project in Dagestan during a Government Commission meeting.

According to the presentation, over the plant's planned 25-year operational period, the facility is projected to address approximately 20% of the region's electricity deficit. In the republic's overall energy balance, the share of electricity generated by the WPP is estimated to reach around 10%.

Nazarov indicated that the company initiated this pilot project implemented on an accelerated timeline: initial construction activities commenced in late 2024, with full commissioning of the plant planned for 2026. As noted, the project demonstrates the region's capacity to implement large-scale energy initiatives.

To date, the first and second stages of Novolakskaya WPP have been incorporated into Russia's territorial planning scheme for the energy sector and into the electricity industry development program. Nazarov expressed that successful operation of wind turbines in the coastal zone could serve as a basis for potential development of additional wind energy projects in Dagestan.
