MAKHACHKALA, August 5 – RIA "Dagestan". The Government of Dagestan held a session on advancing payment infrastructure and non-cash circulation, reporting that the regional banking sector includes 91 institutions. Between April 2025 and April 2026, the combined number of ATMs and POS terminals expanded by 28.6%, with 1,019 ATMs and over 21,700 POS terminals now operational.
More than 45% of these devices are situated in Makhachkala, leaving the majority of municipal districts with below-average infrastructure access. The republic successfully reached its 2025 benchmarks for non-cash payment penetration, supported mainly by transport, retail and utilities.
Positive trends were also recorded in tourism, where non-cash payment availability in hotels increased from 63.7% to over 85%.
