In the first 11 months of 2025, suburban railway passenger traffic in the Republic of Dagestan increased by 1.4 times compared to the same period in 2024. A total of approximately 2.2 million passengers were transported by electric trains across the republic—reflecting growing public reliance on rail for regional mobility.
The Makhachkala–Derbent route saw the most significant growth: 1.3 million passengers traveled this line from January to November 2025—1.7 times more than in the previous year. Meanwhile, the Makhachkala–Khasavyurt route served 540,000 passengers, marking a 23% increase year-on-year.
Currently, 14 pairs of suburban trains operate daily in Dagestan, connecting Makhachkala with Derbent and Khasavyurt, as well as running on the Derbent–Border segment. This expansion in ridership underscores the success of efforts to improve commuter rail services and highlights the increasing role of suburban trains in supporting daily travel, tourism, and economic connectivity across southern Dagestan.
