Wool Production in Dagestan to Exceed 15,000 Tons in 2026

MAKHACHKALA, May 1 – RIA "Dagestan." Rizvan Gazimagomedov, Deputy Prime Minister of Dagestan, took part in a meeting of the Interdepartmental Coordination Headquarters on Wool Market Development at the Caucasus Investment Forum in Mineralnye Vody. The session was chaired by Andrey Yatskin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Dagestan retains its leading role in wool production. With steadily increasing demand for premium wool, the republic makes a major contribution to supplying raw materials for the sector.

Dagestan accounts for 36% of Russia's wool production and over 65% of the NCFD's output, with annual volume exceeding 14,000 tons. Raw wool production is projected to rise to 15,700 tons in 2026 and 16,200 tons in 2027. In 2025, 132 agricultural producers received RUB 63 million in federal subsidies for fine and semi-fine wool, covering 1,566 tons. For the current year, RUB 84.2 million have been allocated.

The wool processing industry is supported through subsidies that help enterprises offset equipment purchase costs for wool and hide processing. Dagestan also successfully implements a 2025–2026 roadmap establishing an industrial wool processing cluster. Eight enterprises are part of the cluster, with total investments of RUB 343.6 million and 147 new jobs created.
