MAKHACHKALA, July 6 – RIA "Dagestan". The VGIK documentary "About Cinema and Life... Sadik Idrisov" which chronicles the life of a Dagestani Afghan War veteran, has won awards at three film festivals in Sweden. The film took second place at both the "Sweden Film Awards" and the "Lulea International Film Festival" and took the third place at the "Stockholm City Film Festival". Produced at S.A. Gerasimov VGIK Educational Studio under the guidance of university rector Vladimir Malyshev, the project was conceptualized and directed by Ilyas Daudi, a master's student in the Screenwriting and Film Studies Faculty. Serving as the third installment in the "About Cinema and Life..." series, the film was created in honor of the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
The film portrays the remarkable life of Sadik Idrisov, a Dagestani veteran of the Afghan War who, despite losing an arm in combat, mastered the profession of a social pedagogue and was honored as an "Honored Youth Mentor of the Republic of Dagestan". Ilyas Daudi pointed out that the selection of the hero was no coincidence, as his personal journey stood as a testament to resilience, overcoming severe adversity and selfless patriotism.
The documentary has been included into a wide array of film festivals in Russia, Spain (Girona and Costa Brava), India (New Delhi) and four prestigious US events: the Austin, Slamdance, Atlanta, and Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festivals. Speaking on the film's international prospects, Daudi expressed hope for an objective assessment by foreign juries, driven by the shared global desire to preserve spiritual and moral values despite modern worldly contradictions.
