MAKHACHKALA, September 29 – RIA "Dagestan". Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Dagestan, Muslim Telyakavov, has chaired a government meeting to finalize preparations for the Festival of Culture and Sports of the Peoples of Southern Russia. The major regional event, dedicated to the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia, will unfold in Makhachkala between October 30 and November 2.
Officials used the meeting to iron out crucial logistical details. Discussions covered the readiness of local sports arenas, alongside accommodation, transport logistics, medical and volunteer support for the guests, security protocols and public relations strategies.
The festival is expected to welcome around 1,200 guests arriving as part of 19 regional sports delegations. Every team will feature a strict roster of 64 individuals: 53 athletes, 10 coaches, and a delegation head. Fans can look forward to competitions in 10 different sports, which will take place across sports facilities in Makhachkala on October 31 and November 1.
Meanwhile, the cultural festivities will transform Lenin Square of the city. An interactive pavilion will be set up, giving regions the chance to present their unique cultural traditions, artisan crafts and local culinary delights.
The festivities will kick off with a grand opening at the Aliyev Sports and Youth Palace in Kaspiysk on October 30. The event will culminate on November 1 in Makhachkala with a grand closing ceremony and the awarding of the top athletes and medalists.
