MAKHACHKALA, April 17 – RIA Dagestan. Construction of bypass roads around the cities of Khasavyurt, Derbent and Makhachkala is progressing according to schedule, with all three projects expected to be completed by 2028, Magomed Isaev, Director of Makhachkala branch of the state institution Uprdor "Kavkaz" reported during a government meeting.
The infrastructure initiatives are designed to alleviate traffic congestion in city centers, improve road safety, and strengthen regional connectivity across the Northern Caucasus.
On Khasavyurt bypass along the R-217 "Kavkaz" Highway, active construction is underway on a 12-kilometer segment, including earthworks, road surfacing at two transport interchanges and bridge deck installation at multiple overpasses.
For Derbent bypass, crews relocate engineering utilities — gas, water, communications and power lines — while implementing measures to preserve cultural heritage sites. Earthworks and road surfacing have commenced on 22-kilometer sections alongside the construction of small hydraulic structures.
Regarding Makhachkala northern bypass (R-215 highway), plans include building a grade-separated overpass to cross the railway line. A positive expert review is expected by late April 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, starting with the Almalo-Tyube section.
These bypass projects represent a significant investment in Dagestan transportation infrastructure, aimed at streamlining freight and passenger traffic while reducing the environmental and social burden on urban areas.
