MAKHACHKALA, June 2 – RIA Dagestan. During a meeting of the Council for State Policy on Promoting the Russian Language and Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, President Vladimir Putin drew attention to the declining publication of books in the languages of Dagestan peoples and called for immediate action to address this issue.
"We need to pay attention to the number of books being published in the languages of Dagestan peoples. Unfortunately, compared to what we call the Soviet period, there has been a certain decline over the previous decades" Putin stated, addressing Fedor Shchukin, Acting Head of the Republic of Dagestan.
The President stressed the need to back cultural initiatives across the regions, observing that despite the abundance of urgent challenges—flood response among them— basic cultural values lie at the core of human identity. "There are many tasks here — floods and other challenges. But these issues form the cultural bedrock of every people. I ask you to pay attention to this and, if necessary, appeal to the government so that it can support this direction with its resources" - the head of state noted.
