Rosavtodor and Dagestan Discuss Plans for Developing Core Road Network

MOSCOW, July 1 – RIA "Dagestan". At a working meeting with Acting Head of the Republic of Dagestan Fyodor Shchukin, the Federal Road Agency Head Roman Novikov designated the development of the core road network as a strategic imperative. The agenda centered on the advancement of federal, regional and local road infrastructure under the "Infrastructure for Life" national project. Novikov further detailed the current state of the regional highways, stating that the federal road network in Dagestan totals over 688 kilometers, of which approximately 70% in standard condition.

Novikov placed particular emphasis on the core road network, which spans 1,046 kilometers within Dagestan borders. "The core network dictates the region's transport connectivity, population mobility, freight transport efficiency and overall tourist appeal" the top manager of the Rosavtodor said.

In response, Shchukin highlighted the progress of modernization of the R-217 "Kavkaz" highway as a key priority. The main goals include expanding the highway to four lanes and constructing bypass routes around Derbent and Khasavyurt. Implementing these projects will boost road capacity, enhance transport accessibility and alleviate traffic congestion on urban highways.
