DERBENT, July 2 – RIA "Dagestan". Twelve-year-old Platon Shein from Stavropol will receive the Tigran Keosayan Prize, which comes with a RUB 1 million award, for rescuing two children from drowning in Derbent. The dramatic incident happened when a 9-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were swept out to sea by a powerful current. Platon swiftly swam to their rescue, holding the frightened children above water until help arrived. The young hero's physical strength and calm demeanor under pressure stem from his training in judo and sambo. He was in Derbent attending sports camps, and his martial arts background undoubtedly gave him the stamina and focus needed to prevent a tragedy.
