MOSCOW, June 4 – RIA Dagestan. The XII "Red Square" Book Festival is underway on the country's main square from June 4 to 7, coinciding with Pushkin's birthday and Russian Language Day. This year, the book marathon has expanded to include 16 thematic platforms.
Coinciding with the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, the festival serves not only as a celebration of literature but also as a distinctive opportunity to explore publications in the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation. The Republic of Dagestan is among the active participants, whose booth traditionally draws considerable interest from both residents and guests of Moscow.
This year, the republic presented the project "Encyclopedia of Victory. Dagestanis – Defenders of the Fatherland" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Around 400 publishers from across Russia take part in the festival each year. The program features more than a hundred industry events, including literary and musical performances, discussions, new book presentations, autograph sessions and the World Championship in Reading Aloud. The official opening ceremony on June 4 was attended by Vladimir Medinsky, Aide to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Festival's Organizing Committee; Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Support of Literature, Publishing and Reading in the Russian Federation; and Sergey Stepashin, President of the Russian Book Union.
