MAKHACHKALA, June 30 – RIA "Dagestan". The "Bringing Science to Villages!" project of Dagestan State University has been awarded a Ministry of Science and Higher Education grant for the second consecutive year, following a competitive selection process. The initiative focuses on making science more accessible to schoolchildren in the outlying settlements of the North Caucasus Federal District.
Among the project's core events was DSU's participation in Makhachkala "Youth Day" celebration, where the university mounted an interactive space at the central venue. The exhibition's centerpiece was a UAV-based terrain mapping platform that allowed attendees to pilot drones under mentor supervision and to learn about aerial imaging and the construction of 3D maps.
The project leader, Chairperson of the Young Scientists Council of DSU Dzhamilya Gamidova, noted that the interactive format of work generated high interest among young people.
"We saw how many young people were drawn to applied science and technology. The drone mapping station was a real hit. That tells us we are on the right track. The key objective of the project is not merely to explain, but to give people a chance to take part and try things out, so that every child, even from the most isolated village, understands that science is accessible, exciting and forward-looking" Gamidova said.
According to DSU Rector Murtazali Rabadanov, the victory in the grant competition shows that the project is in demand and valued federally. "The university must engage with talented youth wherever they live. This is our input into the republic's and the country's human resources" he stated. The upcoming activities include organization of mobile university shifts in Dagestan districts, scientific competitions and finalists’ gatherings.
