Interregional Discussion on Justice and Youth Radicalization Factors Held at Dagestan State University

MAKHACHKALA, May 1 – RIA "Dagestan." Students and experts from Central Russia, Siberia and newly incorporated territories gathered at Dagestan State University's Faculty of Management for an interregional discussion on justice and youth radicalization. The event focused on three questions related to public stability: the nature of justice in modern society, the limits of acceptable means in pursuing it and the factors that can push youth toward radicalization.

The event, organized by DSU's Coordination Center, brought together participants to discuss complex social processes. Center Head Magomed Magomedov stressed the importance of addressing sensitive topics in an academic setting with reasoned arguments and diverse viewpoints. The first discussion segment explored whether any means are permissible when pursuing justice. Attendees reached a consensus that justice is a subjective concept and that any justification of unrestricted methods could weaken legal and ethical frameworks.

One student argued that if everyone acted on their personal concept of justice, society would lose shared norms and spiral into endless conflict. Experts highlighted legal institutions and social norms as essential limits on subjective arbitrariness. Examining radicalization triggers, participants explored factors including a lack of life direction, restricted opportunities and no "sense of the future" — conditions that may push youth toward destructive behavior.

Individuals lacking opportunities for self-realization may turn to alternative methods of affirming their significance, occasionally embracing dangerous and destructive behaviors, participants noted. Students pointed to education, involvement in social and professional activities and well-defined life paths as key preventive factors.

Participants highlighted the preventive and educational benefits of the event, noting its role in building critical thinking skills and a thoughtful engagement with social issues. Interregional dialogue, which unites varied viewpoints and cultural backgrounds, received special emphasis. Magomed Magomedov resumed that DSU's Coordination Center would continue using such formats to enhance civic resilience and counter destructive ideologies among young people.
