AKHTYNSKY DISTRICT, April 21 – RIA Dagestan. The primary event of the international “Garden of Memory" initiative took place in Akhtynsky District, Dagestan, at the Khryug Forest—a site significantly damaged by severe wildfires in 2025. Approximately 4,000 pine seedlings were planted by volunteers, forestry staff, and local residents, initiating the second such reforestation campaign in the area.
The initiative serves a dual purpose: ecological restoration of the fire-ravaged forest and honoring fallen defenders of the homeland, from Great Patriotic War veterans to soldiers who died in the recent special military operation. Each tree stands as a living memorial.
The ceremony was attended by Vagab Abdulkhamidov, Chairman of the Forestry Committee of the Republic of Dagestan and Abdul-Kerim Palchaev, Head of Akhtynsky District. Officials emphasized that the campaign reflected collective responsibility for both environmental recovery and historical remembrance, with local communities providing substantial support.
Through coordinated efforts, the project successfully planted over 4,000 seedlings, demonstrating how environmental stewardship combined with commemoration can unite people across different backgrounds. The "Garden of Memory" continues to symbolize commitment to the republic's future and a tangible tribute to the cost of peace.
