Dagestan will host the Spartakiad of the Peoples of Republic for the first time in modern history. This momentous sporting event, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Year of Defender of the Fatherland and the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Dagestan, will take place on September 3 - 30.
Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports, the Spartakiad will feature sixteen disciplines, including freestyle wrestling, tug-of-war, archery and stone throwing. Participants from all cities and districts of the republic are expected to compete. The Trud Stadium in Makhachkala will serve as the primary venue for sporting events, culminating in a grand opening ceremony on September 20th featuring a vibrant parade of participants. Winners and runners-up will be recognized with cash prizes, cups, and honorary diplomas.
The revival of this esteemed tradition signifies a return to Dagestan's rich history of physical culture and sports. As to the regional Sports Minister Sajid Sajidov, the Spartakiad transcends mere athletic competition; it serves as a unifying celebration promoting physical well-being and a healthy lifestyle for residents of all ages and professions.
The event also carries historical weight, harking back to the emergence of the physical culture movement in Dagestan during the 1920s and the subsequent tradition of national sports contests held every four years.
