The reconstruction of the R-217 highway section (879 - 889 km) along the Caspian Sea coast is underway in Dagestan. About 40 special vehicles and 100 road workers are involved in the work.

The traffic intensity on the two-lane section in the popular tourist and logistic direction is about 30 thousand cars per day. The road will become four-lane and will be divided by a barrier fence in the middle. There will also be two bus stops, street lighting and new markings.  Apart from this project, three other sections of the Kavkaz highway with a total length of 45 km are currently being widened from two to four lanes in the region.
