As part of a state-led program to bolster fish populations in the Caspian Sea, over four million juvenile fish from commercially significant species, including carp and kutum, will be released into the marine environment.
This initiative is undertaken by Tersko-Caspian branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Glavrybvod, with oversight provided by specialists from the North Caucasian Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstvo (Federal Agency for Fishery of the Russian Federation).
The juvenile fish will be released in the Republic of Dagestan, within the Caspian Sea basin. Releasing hatchery-raised juvenile fish into their natural habitat is an essential strategy to increase fish stocks, promote sustainable fishing practices over the long term, and protect the ecological integrity of the Caspian Sea for the benefit of Dagestan and the whole country.
