The capacity of Makhachkala port is set to expand by a remarkable 32%, surging from its current level of 8.3 million tons to 11 million tons, thanks to the implementation of strategic infrastructure development initiatives.
In pursuit of this expansion, ambitious plans call for the construction of a separate grain terminal within the port, along with the renovation of existing berths. Furthermore, the infrastructure of Russian Railways is projected to undergo significant enhancements, with a focus on modernizing the container terminal and establishing a state-of-the-art dry port capable of handling a diverse range of cargo.
As to Jamal Aliyev, the director general of the port, during the first eleven months of 2024, the port had successfully processed 838,600 tons of dry cargo and a substantial volume of 1,799,800 tons of oil. A remarkable variety of cargo types, encompassing 15 distinct categories, underwent transshipment, with key commodities including grain, cement, construction materials, fertilizers, timber, flour and petroleum products.
