Dagestan has significantly increased its presence in the domestic mutton market, rising from a 6% share in the 1990s to an impressive 20%. Currently, the republic produces approximately 36,000 tons of mutton annually and is poised to become a major supplier of halal meat on the domestic market and abroad.
Sharip Sharipov, the first deputy Head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Food, highlighted this development during a round table discussion titled "Prospects for the development of the halal products market" at the XVII Russian Agro-industrial Exhibition "Golden Autumn". The event emphasized the rapid expansion of the global halal market and explored Russia's potential role in this growing industry.
