Dagestan actively exports finished fish products to major Russian cities including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Stavropol, as well as to international market.  By the end of 2024, Dagestan processed a total of 5.8 thousand tons of aquatic biological resources. This included 5.3 thousand tons of fish caught in the Caspian Sea and 550 tons imported from other regions, consisting mainly of salmon, pink salmon, cod, Atlantic herring fillets and steaks and red caviar.

The Republic boasts 18 organizations engaged in processing and producing fish products.  Both wild-caught and farmed fish and caviar are highly sought after in neighboring countries such as Kazakhstan and Belarus. Notably, the regional fish farms have also emerged as popular tourist destinations, according to Khadizhat Shamkhalova, Head of the Fisheries Committee of the Republic of Dagestan. This growth highlights not only the increasing production capacity but also the burgeoning tourism sector associated with aquaculture in Dagestan.
