Dagestan authorities have submitted a request to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia regarding the possibility of resuming rice exports. The regional government has already sent a letter to the federal agency outlining this proposal.
In light of the fact that rice production in Russia surpasses domestic consumption, the resumption of exports is deemed appropriate, Khaybulla Khaybullaev, head of Dagestan Association of Rice Growers says. Khaybullaev emphasizes that the region- produced rice is in high demand in several partner countries, including Iran and others.
It is worth noting that the Russian Government introduced a temporary ban on rice exports in 2022 which remains in force until the end of 2024.
