The production of fruits and berries in the Republic of Dagestan has more than doubled over the past 15 years, accounting for one-quarter of the overall output in the agricultural sector. This growth has been facilitated by the expansion of viticulture, which has seen an increase in its own base from 31,000 hectare to 32,001 hectare. Additionally, businesses have an opportunity to allocate part of their excise tax revenue towards the development of this sector.
Moreover, in 2023, the largest industrial kiwi orchard in Russia, spanning 20 hectares, was established in Derbentski municipal district. Experts are actively engaged in studying the acclimatization of the plants to local climatic conditions and planning to expand these plantations. Future goals include increasing production of subtropical crops, positioning the republic as a key player in the import substitution of kiwi and persimmon.
