Port Director General Djamal Aliyev has announced a new development project to expand port operations beyond the congested coastal zone.

"Utilizing sites outside the coastal area is a sound practice," Aliyev stated. "We face a deficit of space here, constrained by the sea on one side and the main railway line on the other. The new project involves constructing a logistics center and warehouse facilities on the city's outskirts, towards the urban-type settlement of Shamkhal."

This strategic expansion, by creating additional storage capacity, is designed to significantly increase the port's cargo turnover.
