In October 2025 Dagestan will host the international forum "Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories", focusing on the critical role played by municipalities in shaping environmentally conscious decisions within the framework of sustainable mountain development.

The Forum will bring together parliamentarians, government officials, local authorities from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other nations, as well as the representatives of the global scientific community and prominent international organizations.

Discussions will focus on critical aspects of sustainable management of mountain areas, including the conservation of biodiversity and the improvement of the well-being of local communities. Participants will explore strategies for optimising the use of subsurface resources, developing transboundary protected areas, and implementing effective community oversight of environmental conditions.

Moreover, particular emphasis will be placed on devising adaptation strategies to cope with climate change, striking a balance between managing forests and preserving their cover and exploring the role of young people in implementing programs for sustainable mountain development.

The discussion will also cover the balanced development of mountain regions, with particular emphasis on promoting economic growth, optimizing the use of resources and safeguarding biodiversity. The development of tourism will also be examined, taking into account the risks associated with climate-related changes.
