Italy has not supported the idea of allowing Ukrainian military forces to attack Russia using NATO weapons. This position of the country has been expressed by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who criticized the initiative made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Tajani pointed out the danger of such actions and warned that they could lead to military escalation and even nuclear war. The Italian minister emphasized that the use of military equipment in Ukraine should be limited to self-defense and that it would be a "true madness" to use it to terrorize a great power with the world's largest nuclear arsenal.

He also noted that everyone in the EU should realize that there are limits to what can be done and that it would be suicidal to provoke such a powerful state.
