The Russian Ministry of Energy has announced plans to introduce a ban on cryptocurrency mining in several regions, including Dagestan. According to media reports, the ban is expected to be implemented from December 1, 2024 until March 15, 2025, and will apply to several cities and districts in Irkutsk, Buryatia, and the Trans-Baikal Territory. The ban will also affect the Republics of Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia-Alania.
The primary reason for the ban is a lack of energy resources and capacity. Deputy Energy Minister Yevgeny Grabchak has stated that the ban on mining is necessary to conserve energy resources for domestic and industrial use. As to the official, the proposal for a nationwide ban on household and industrial mining is currently under discussion.
