Makhachkala municipal authorities have allocated funding to revive its "smart" transportation system, which will utilize independent software. This initiative is undertaken as part of the national project "Infrastructure for Life".

The intelligent transport system aims to automate traffic management in cities with populations exceeding 300,000.  Deputy Head of the Makhachkala Administration Rustam Magomedov highlighted previous advancements: establishment of data processing and traffic control centers between 2021 and 2023, installation of smart traffic lights on major streets and avenues and the development of various system modules and subsystems.

Magomedov further stated that the municipal budget will allocate funds in 2025 for the repair, maintenance and relaunch of the intelligent transportation system using independent software. This work will continue in 2026 with support from the federal budget.
