Since 2024, the republican authorities have stepped up their efforts to monitor the sale of dietary supplements. This involves conducting on-site inspections and ensuring compliance with mandatory regulations, leveraging the information available in the national system for tracking the sale of products requiring mandatory labelling and identification.

The inspections have revealed that in most cases, specialized retail outlets fail to provide adequate storage conditions for these products, lack authorization documents for their sale and fail to take into account age restrictions. Moreover, the labels often lack information in Russian language and incorporate religious terminology.

The illicitly traded products frequently contain pharmaceutical compounds with psychotropic, narcotic and therapeutic properties. In the Republic of Dagestan, dietary supplements are predominantly imported from foreign sources, primarily Turkey and Iran, or manufactured in illicit local workshops that lack authorization documentation and proper labeling in accordance with the «Honest Mark» Russia’s nationwide system.

To address this issue, the regional government intends to establish a collaborative working group comprising regulatory agencies to conduct routine inspections and strengthen monitoring efforts.
