The Speaker of the regional Parliament (People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan) Zaur Askenderov congratulated the comanders and servicemen of the 177th Independent Marine Regiment on awarding of the honorary "Guards" title.

"There has been another joyful event for us. By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the 177th Independent Marine Regiment of the Red Banner Caspian Flotilla has been awarded the "Guards" honorary title.

Hundreds of Dagestanis serve in the regiment, which is based in the town of Kaspiysk. The title "Guards" is awarded to the best of the best. The sailors have repeatedly demonstrated their professionalism and skills during combat operations in Syria and now, during a special military operation in former Ukrainian regions.
