For the first time in Dagestan, cardiac surgeons successfully performed a complex aortic replacement surgery on a 57-year-old male patient. The patient suffered a severe aortic aneurysm and coronary artery disease, exacerbated by longstanding poorly controlled hypertension, diabetes mellitus and ischemia.
Facing imminent risk of aortic rupture, which could have resulted in fatal consequences, the surgical team undertook the challenging Bentall–De Bono procedure. During this intricate operation, the patient's heart was temporarily stopped, with blood circulation maintained through an artificial system. Surgeons meticulously removed the damaged sections of the aorta and upper heart chamber, replacing them with a prosthetic valve-containing graft.
Following several hours of meticulous surgical intervention, the procedure was successfully completed. The patient subsequently underwent rehabilitation at Dagestan Center for Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery and has since resumed a normal life. This successful operation marks a significant advancement in the regional cardiac surgery.
