Makhachkala, July 28, 2014. Today Daghestani Muslims celebrate holiday Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of fasting prescribed by God - when the faithful abstain fr om eating from dawn to sunset in the holy month of Ramadan.
To break the fast on the day of the holiday, Almighty has made it mandatory and the fasting is taboo. Legend says that this day Allah revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the first verses of the holy Koran.
The solemn celebration devoted to the Eid al-Fitr in Daghestan began in the early morning. Festive prayers (Salat al-Eid), attended by thousands of Muslims were held in all the mosques.
Together with the parishioners of Makhachkala Central Juma mosque, Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov made a collective namaz. At the end of namaz, the Imam of Juma mosque read festive sermon - khutbah.
Then for the faithful there was deployed a special tent wh ere everyone could eat. Nasheeds, blessings on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and glorifying the name of Allah were executed on a special platform.
Today Muslims have the last chance for paying the obligatory alms - sah in favor of the poors before the sunset. Financial assistant stations have been opened for such payment son the territory of all Daghestan mosques.
Celebrating Eid al-Fitr, every Daghestan Muslim family lays the table with a lot of different dishes, sweets and fruits.
Eid al-Fitr holiday lasts three days. At this time the faithful have to visit the graves of loved relatives, to give presents and donations to the poor and to ask each other’s forgiveness.
