Analysis by Avito Rabota reveals a significant surge in demand for agricultural workers in Russia during the second quarter of 2025. The demand rose by 56% compared to the same period in the preceding year, underscoring a critical shortage of personnel within the agricultural sector.
Specific roles experiencing particularly high demand include agricultural workers (176% increase), gardeners (77% increase), and vegetable growers (19% increase). Despite substantial salary increases - for example, the average monthly salary for a vegetable grower reached 159,411 rubles, while an agricultural worker earned 148,886 rubles - the staffing shortage persists.
Experts attribute this ongoing challenge to factors beyond compensation, including the physically demanding nature of the work, its seasonal character, and the requirement to reside in rural areas. The overall personnel deficit within the agro-industrial complex is estimated to be between 150,000 and 300,000 individuals.
Modern agricultural practices, which increasingly incorporate digitalization, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies, necessitate a diverse workforce beyond traditional farmers. The demand extends to agronomists (especially those with expertise in organic farming), engineers, IT specialists, logisticians, marketers and operators of unmanned vehicles.
Analysts point out that salary increases alone are insufficient to address the personnel gap. They advocate for comprehensive government initiatives aimed at enhancing the image of agricultural professions and systematically improving living conditions in rural areas.
