The Rector of Dagestan State University, Murtazali Rabadanov, held a meeting with representatives of the Scientific and Technical Centre of Gazpromneft. The meeting participants focused on the implementation of a government order aimed at developing technologies for the concentration and extraction of lithium from geothermal waters in Dagestan.

The scientists of Dagestan State University presented a project on the production of lithium carbonate using geothermal brine. This method may potentially become a significant source of lithium. One of the promising locations for this project is the Berikeyskoe deposit near Makhachkala.

Murtazali Rabadanov emphasized that DSU scientists and the Institute of Geothermal Energy and Renewable Resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been actively engaged in studying geothermal deposits in Dagestan, rich in valuable minerals, for many years. They conducted experiments to determine the efficiency of commercial products and calculate the amount of reactants required for extracting lithium and other valuable minerals.

The meeting was a continuation of the satellite events that took place as part of the Fourth Congress of Young Scientists during the Decade of Science and Technology in Dagestan. The aim of these events was to find solutions for the development of crucial economic sectors in the Caspian-Caucasus macro-region, particularly focusing on the exploration and implementation of technologies related to the extraction of lithium from geothermal water.
