The cities of Grozny in the Northern Caucasus, Kislovodsk in Transcaucasia, Batumi and Gudauri in Georgia and the Sulak Gorge in Dagestan have been declared winners of an international competition for tourist symbols in the Northern and Southern Caucasus regions.
This information has been announced today on the official website of the competition. The competition, titled "Tourist Symbols of the Caucasus" was open for voting from January 17 to April 30, 2025 on the website caucasus.world. During this period, residents and visitors of the region could vote for their favorite sea, health and ski resorts, as well as for the main attractions and the capital of tourism in the Caucasus.
Based on results of the voting, Grozny, the capital city of the Chechen Republic, emerged as the winner in the category of "Tourist Capital of the Caucasus." Kislovodsk in Stavropol Territory received recognition for its excellence in the "Best Health Resort" category, while Batumi in Georgia was chosen as the "Best Sea Resort." Gudauri in Georgia took the title of the "Best Ski Resort". Sulak Gorge in Dagestan was recognized as the "Main Attraction" of the Caucasus.
“The recognition of the Sulak Canyon as the top tourist destination in the Caucasus underlines the need to designate it as a protected natural area and establish strict regulations for human activity similar to those implemented at the Grand Canyon National Park in the USA. This suggestion was made by Saadu Kaziev, a member of the expert panel.
