Dagestani to perform at European Championships in powerlifting among invalids

Makhachkala, August 27, 2015. A native of Dagestan, fourth-year student of St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO) Magomed Jamalov has been included into the main part of the Russian team in powerlifting.

The team consists of individuals with damage to the musculoskeletal system to participate in an open European Championships to be held 21-29 November in Eger (Hungary).

To get to the national team Jamalov succeeded by winning the championship of Russia, which took place on May 22 - 27 in the town of Aleksin, Tula region.
The last victory of the Dagestan athlete was the gold medal in the open tournament in powerlifting held on August 14 in St. Petersburg. In this competition, Magomed won from nearly 200 athletes from 38 regions of the country. He managed to win the overall classification by lifting 170 kg.

The victory in this competition was calculated using the coefficient Wilks, reflecting the relationship between the athlete's own weight and the weight lifted.

The twenty-year-old Magomed was born in Dagestan town of Kizilurt. He is disabled since childhood. His father, Jamaludin Jamalov, is the coach of wrestling, master of sports of the USSR. More than fifteen years ago, the family moved to St. Petersburg. But, despite this, the Magomed’s have constantly kept contacts with the homeland. "It could not be otherwise, we do not forget our roots," - Jamalov senior confessed.
