Makhach Murtazaliev takes charge of Dagestan national team

The esteemed Master of Sports, Makhach Murtazaliev, has been appointed as the new head coach of the national freestyle wrestling team of Dagestan. On January 6th, at the start of Krasnoyarsk Ivan Yarygin Cup training camp, which took place at the seaside training base in Makhachkala, the new leader has been introduced to the regional freestyle wrestling squad.
Murtazaliev succeeds Gadzhi Rashidov, who had been leading the national team since 2020. However, Rashidov remains with the team as an assistant coach.
At 40 years of age, Makhach Murtazaliev boasts an impressive career as a wrestler. He won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Athens, as well as two world championships and four European championships. In his 27th year, he retired from wrestling due to an injury to his shoulder, after which he transitioned to entrepreneurship. Since 2016, he has served as the head coach for the Russian national wrestling team.
His educational background includes two degrees, having graduated from both the Faculty of Physical Education at Dagestan State University and the Faculty of Law at the same institution.
