Athletes representing Dagestan achieved notable success at the Russian Women's Freestyle Wrestling Championship, held in Moscow on June 25-26. The team secured two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
One of the championship's highlights was the intense final bout in the 50 kg weight class between Ekaterina Verbina from Makhachkala and Alexandra Skirenko from Krasnodar Territory. Verbina, Svetlana Gracheva’s trainee, emerged victorious with a score of 18-9 after an exciting contest that saw Skirenko initially leading. This win marked Verbina's continued success this season, following her triumphs at the Yarygin tournament and the European Championship.
Ksenia Burakova demonstrated a commanding performance in the 72 kg weight class, securing her third national championship title. The 33-year-old wrestler won all three of her bouts without conceding any points. Burakova's coach, Karina Shadoyan, attributed her success to training with experienced wrestler Inna Trazhukova and the support provided by Anvar Magomedgadzhiev from the Gamidov School in Makhachkala.
Elizaveta Smirnova (50 kg) secured a silver medal for Dagestan, while Natalia Prokopyeva (57 kg) and Vusala Parfianovich (68 kg) have become the bronze medal winners.
