Astrakhan to host 1st Caspian Media Forum

Makhachkala, September 2, 2015. The first Caspian Media Forum will take place in Astrakhan on September16 to 19. The initiator of the forum are the representatives of Caspian basin states under the aegis of the Government of Astrakhan and Astrakhan regional television station "Astrakhan 24" along with the leading regional TV companies of the Caspian countries.

The idea of holding the Forum have been supported by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The forum participants are expected to discuss the humanitarian and economic cooperation issues, the formation of a single information space, the role of media in contemporary global and regional processes, as well as the ways to counteract the imposed external values alien to the countries of the Caspian region.

As it was reported, the leading local and foreign media and the expert community such as ITAR-TASS, Interstate TV and Radio Company "Mir", an autonomous non-profit organization "TV-Novosti", "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", "Komsomolskaya Pravda", the National Research University “Higher School of Economics”, the federal unitary enterprise “Television Technical Center "Ostankino" and others, as well as representatives of mass media from Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenista will participate in the first Caspian Media Forum.

The Media Forum is expected to become a significant platform for a professional communication among the mass media representatives of the Caspian states. The topical issues related to the journalistic community work, training and retraining, the issues of media freedom and responsibility, the challenges of globalization, maintaining the sovereignty and national identity will be debated within the round tables and workshops.
