Russian wrestling championships-2015 to be held in Dagestan
Makhachkala, November 28, 2014. The Russian wrestling championships-2015 will be held at the Ali Aliyev Sports Palace in Kaspiysk as decided by the Russian Sport Wrestling Federation earlier in the week.
Ulan-Ude, the capital of Buryatia republic also went after hosting the championships, and it qualified for hosting the Russian-wide competition scheduled for April 26-30.
Dagestan will host the Russian championships for the first time in May, 2015. Before that, the republic only hosted USSR championships - in 1968, 1970 and 1989.
Dagestan minister for physical culture and sports Magomed Magomedov commented: "I think we will hold the competition at the highest level, as we have infrastructure already in place and we are no strangers to holding sports events like that. In March 2011, we held the world freestyle wrestling cup event at the Ali Aliyev Sports Palace - one of the best sports facilities in the republic. It was the first time Dagestan had ever become the place for holding such a grand representative sports event.
"This is one of the biggest sports events in the world, the third biggest one after the Olympics and world championships. The whole Dagestan as well as the global sports community looked forward to seeing the cup. The sports palace was fully packed with fans – there were about 6,000 spectators including a lot of famous guests. We held the significant international competition at the highest level. National teams and, officials from the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (fr. FILA) already known as the United World Wrestling (UWW) were very satisfied with the event’s organization.
"Accordingly, I believe that we are able to hold the Russian championships in Dagestan at the proper level. We’ll be happy to welcome the top fighters in our home country," the minister shared with RIA "Dagestan ".
