As of October 2024, the livestock population of all types on farms across the republic amounts to approximately 5 million head of sheep and goats. This constitutes 21% of the total livestock population in the country, Mukhtarbiy Adzhekov, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan says.

Noteworthy, Dagestan annually produces approximately 75 thousand tons of mutton in live weight. Of this total production, more than 15 thousand tons, equivalent to 20% of the output, is exported to other regions of Russia. Over the course of the past three years, the republic has also constructed slaughterhouses and meat processing facilities, with a combined design capacity of up to 200 tons per day.
