The port of Makhachkala saw a decrease in cargo transshipment by 4.3% over the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2022. The total cargo transshipment amounted to 1.611 million tons in January-June, down from 1.684 million tons in the first half of last year. This decrease was mainly due to a drop in liquid cargo, which decreased by 73 thousand tons over the six-month period.

However, the volume of dry cargo increased, with 593.5 thousand tons handled in the first half of this year, compared to 593.3 thousand in the corresponding period last year. Cement shipments saw an increase of 61.5%, reaching 249.7 thousand tons in 2024.
