The construction of a new runway at Makhachkala International Airport is nearing completion—well ahead of the original schedule. Initially slated for commissioning in 2028, the project is now over 90% finished and is expected to become operational as early as the second half of 2026.

According to Idris Ilyasov, Director General of JSC “Mostotryad-99”, the accelerated progress is primarily attributed to the use of advanced construction technologies, notably the high-performance “Gamak” concrete paving complex, which has significantly improved both efficiency and surface quality.

The new runway measures 3,200 meters in length and 45 meters in width, covering a total area of 214,000 square meters. Designed to handle all aircraft types—including large wide-body jets—it will substantially increase the airport’s capacity, safety, and regional connectivity, reinforcing the role of Makhachkala as a major aviation hub in the Northern Caucasus.
