Mavlid Khaibulaev, a farmer from Dagestan, had already applied new technology to increase yield of watermelons for the republic. The man tested a number of varieties and hybrids of melons on his land plot of 4 hectares. The results surprised everyone - the yield increased 3-4 times on average, and the content of sugars and dry matter increased too.

Grafting with hybrid varieties of watermelon makes plants more drought-resistant, accelerates bush intensity, increases yield in several times both in size and number of fully matured fruits, as well as allows to get an earlier harvest.

Dagestan ranks 4th in Russia in terms of cucurbit production. The total area under this crop is 7.5 thousand hectares, of which Nogai, Kizlyar, Babayurt, Derbent and Khasavyurt municipal districts take almost 75%.
